If you are looking for a game to brighten your evening and bring joy and merriment into your lives, I'm sorry to say that this game is not it. This game is a sincerely unpleasant expression of a series of unfortunate events that led to the ruin of countless lives, an end to friendships forged over decades, and a red wine stain on a priceless dress.

About Unlikely Stories

Unlikely Stories is a UK-based RPG studio founded by Katie Moore and Anna McKie. Our goals are to run high quality, affordable, accessible, player-driven roleplaying games that can be enjoyed by Players and Crew alike; and to facilitate other creators seeking to do the same.

We founded Unlikely Stories as we were bringing our first serial LARP (Live Action Roleplaying Game) to a close in 2024 and wanted to provide a central basis from which to run our future events where attendees know the quality and ethos of the game-runners.

In due course, we also want to provide our expertise to other creators in order to help their ideas thrive, to improve player and crew experiences alike, and to boost access to games that could otherwise be missed.

Who Are We?

Katie looking fine

Katie Moore

Katie has been LARPing since 2012 and running games since 2013. Her particular passion is for creating content that gives players a unique story to tell. At her day-job she is a video game AI developer, something she feels lends a particular je ne sais quoi to writing engaging LARPs and responding to all of the wonderful chaos that Players bring.

Anna McKie

Anna has been LARPing since 2017 and running games since 2018. She has a fondness for low-stakes, high-drama stories, and games that support those quieter interpersonal moments just as much as the world-changing, metaphysic-shattering ones. When she’s not writing plot, you can usually find her adding to her vast collection of logistical spreadsheets.

Unfortunate: A Game of Unfortunate Events

Unfortunate

Unfortunate is a one-day event inspired by Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events in which Players take the roles of members of a secret organisation which has just undergone a massive internal schism. Expect disguises, distrust, discord, and many other aspects most but not of all of which begin with the letters ‘dis’ in this parlour LARP coming in 2024. More details to follow soon…

Future Projects

Beyond the finale of Tales Untold in 2024, we are looking to the future and already have plans for a single-run LARP in 2025, the start of a new LARP series, and multiple single-run LARPs into 2026 and beyond. Watch this space for more unlikely stories.

Tales Untold

Tales Untold is a game set in a high fantasy narrative-driven world of fairytales. Players are heroes and villains, nobles and scoundrels, witches and sorcerers, working to further their own agendas and the prosperity of their realms around a great event thrown at the heart of the world, at the invitation of its rulers. In Tales Untold, every character has a story to tell - every character has the chance to become a legend. Roll into a fairytale world you can make your own.

Though not an Unlikely Stories game, Tales Untold is the first full project that Katie and Anna have run together and its final events are run as the start of the future of Unlikely Stories.

Praise for Tales Untold

One of the best Crewing experiences in the country.
Thank you for making a game that’s so gender diverse and inclusive
The accessibility of this system is impressive, if only all LARPs shared your commitment.
Each event gets better and better!
I love, love, love the emphasis on storytelling and relationships and how that’s baked into the world.
I f*cking love Tales Untold.
